Health and care workers are sometimes required to carry out oral suctioning for their service users who require assistance to clear secretions from the airways when unable to do so for themselves. This can be due to weakness, fatigue or the volume of secretions to be cleared.
Using both practical and theoretical training methods, students will learn how to undertake the procedure of oral &/or nasopharyngeal suctioning safely and effectively, while also gaining a basic awareness of the anatomy of the upper airway.
